This bought tears to my eyes - the desperation that man experienced. However I am struggling a little too and here is why. I worked with women and children (aged 7 years +) recently who had experienced domestic abuse. Those children witnessed things little children should never see - punching, dads raping mums, verbal abuse you name it they saw/heard it. My job was to help these women and children come to terms with what had happened and to help them understand that it was in no way their fault - that the men who had abused could decide whether to hurt them or not and hopefully enabling them to move on.

So where does Dave fit into all this - as a qualified social worker I also understand his pain and that his background has certainly had a profound effect on his present and possibly his future. I thank God for people like you who can support people as desperate as Dave which then improves life for all involved.

Were you able to source help for Daves partner during all this? (just a question not a judgement.) I truely hope and pray that Dave is able to move out of his dark place and enjoy life again.

It's the small things which count the most Nick, I agree. So many of Jesus miracles were beautifully subtle.

Well observed - ignorance can be as destructive as arrogance. And it's not just these extreme examples, but also in the smaller everyday things where I choose silence over speaking up. I'll stand up and speak up with you mate.

Yeah I know what you mean mate. It's a weird one isn't it? Jesus clearly despised racism, but also hated hypocrisy. So for me to judge the racist, would be to claim I am not a hyprocrite. Not that I harbour racist beliefs (sporting events excluded) but I do judge people on other levels. Ricky Gervais said something great the other day. "The bones and skeletons underneath the skin, are almost identical to the next guy. It makes racism so illogical". Maybe a good put down would be "Oi, fella, your bones are the same colour as theirs".

Well said and happy birthday.

Racism makes an anger burn within me. So much so I have to be careful not to judge or retaliate against the racist, who is normally so because of his own upbringing and role models.

I have yet to think of a half decent "loving putdown"!
